🏞️ 1. The Ganga River System
- Origin: Gangotri Glacier (Uttarakhand)
- Length: ~2,525 km
- Important Tributaries: Ghaghara, Gandak, Kosi (left bank); Yamuna, Son (right bank)
- Flows Through: Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal
- Empties Into: Bay of Bengal
Fact: Ganga is the most sacred river for Hindus and also the most populous river basin in India.
🏞️ 2. The Brahmaputra River System
- Origin: Mansarovar Lake (Tibet, called Tsangpo)
- Enters India: Through Arunachal Pradesh (as Dihang)
- Flows Through: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam
- Joins: Ganga River in Bangladesh (as Jamuna) to form the Padma River
Fact: Brahmaputra causes major floods in Assam every year due to heavy rainfall and sediment load.

- Known As: Dakshin Ganga (Ganga of the South)
- Origin: Nashik (Maharashtra)
- Length: ~1,465 km
- Flows Through: Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha
- Important Tributaries: Indravati, Sabari, Pranhita, Manjira
- Empties Into: Bay of Bengal
Fact: Godavari basin is the second-largest river basin in India.
🏞️ 4. The Krishna River System
- Origin: Mahabaleshwar (Maharashtra)
- Length: ~1,400 km
- Flows Through: Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh
- Tributaries: Bhima, Tungabhadra, Musi
- Empties Into: Bay of Bengal
Fact: Almatti and Nagarjuna Sagar are major dams on the Krishna River.
🏞️ 5. The Indus River System (Western Rivers)
- Origin: Tibet near Lake Mansarovar
- Flows Through: Ladakh (India), then enters Pakistan
- Major Tributaries: Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas, Sutlej
- Under: Indus Waters Treaty (1960) between India and Pakistan
Fact: Three rivers—Ravi, Beas, Sutlej—are allocated to India under the treaty.

The Indian taxation system is a structured mechanism used by the government to collect revenues from individuals and businesses. It plays a key role in national development, infrastructure, defense, and public welfare.
1. Types of Taxes in India
A. Direct Taxes
- Income Tax: Paid by individuals and businesses based on their income or profits.
- Corporate Tax: Paid by companies on their net profits.

- CBDT: Central Board of Direct Taxes – Direct tax administration
- CBIC: Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs – Indirect tax and GST administration
